Hula Classes
Halau Na 'Olapa Mamao E Malama Hula teaches both Hula Kahiko (ancient hula) and Hula 'Auana (modern hula) for all skill levels. Classes begin with an Oli (chant) and practice of the basic hula steps. We then continue with Hula Kahiko and Hula 'Auana. Materials used in class include historic facts and explanations as well as visuals. Individual research is encouraged. In addition to exercising and practicing the dance motions, students will become familiar with the culture, the music and the language of our 50th state, the "Aloha State".
Halau Na 'Olapa Mamao E Malama Hula teaches hula as a holistic form of dance, which incorporates physical, spiritual, musical, cultural, historic and linguistic elements. The "healing" aspect of hula has often been emphasized by health-care professionals.
